Dahlia Tubers FAQs

General Dahlia Tuber Information

What size are the tubers you sell?

We sell healthy, viable individual dahlia tubers, not clumps. Each tuber will be large enough to store energy for strong growth and will have an identifiable eye or be expected to produce one by planting time. Some varieties naturally have smaller tubers, while others produce larger ones—size doesn’t affect bloom quality!

Our dahlia tubers have been lovingly grown on our farm following strict sanitation practices. We do not resell imports or clumps, only tubers that have grown under our care for a minimum of three years.

How many tubers do I need per plant?

You only need one tuber per planting hole to grow a full, productive plant.

Do tubers come with visible eyes?

Most tubers will have visible eyes at the time of sale, but some may still be dormant. Eyes become easier to spot as temperatures warm up and dormancy breaks.

Will my dahlia tubers look exactly like the photos?

Bloom colors and shapes can vary slightly due to growing conditions, soil, and climate. We strive to provide accurate representations, but variations are a natural part of growing dahlias.

What should I do with my dahlia tuber when it arrives?

When your dahlia tubers arrive:

  • Inspect them immediately. If you have any concerns, email us with clear photos within 48 hours of delivery.

  • Store them properly until planting. Keep tubers in their original packaging or your preferred storage method in a cool, dry place (around 50°F and above freezing).

  • Protect from critters. Mice and other nibbling pests love dahlia tubers—store them somewhere safe.

  • Monitor moisture levels. Open the bag occasionally to prevent excess moisture buildup, and check to ensure tubers aren’t drying out.

  • For longer storage: If you won’t be planting for several weeks, consider potting them up early to encourage sprouting.

Growing & Care Tips

When should I plant my dahlia tubers?

Dahlias should be planted after the danger of frost has passed and when soil temperatures reach at least 55°F (13°C). In most areas, this is mid-to-late spring.

What are the best-growing conditions for dahlias?

Dahlias thrive in full sun (at least 6–8 hours per day) and well-draining soil. They prefer moderate watering and benefit from staking for support.

Do I need to stake my dahlias?

Most tall or large-flowered dahlias benefit from staking, especially dinner-plate varieties. If your dahlias tend to flop or experience wind exposure, staking is recommended.

How do I overwinter dahlias in my climate?

  • Zones 9 and warmer: Dahlias can often overwinter in the ground with a thick layer of mulch.

  • Zones 8 and colder: Dahlias should be lifted and stored in a cool, dry place for winter.

Returns, Refunds & Guarantee

What if my tuber doesn’t sprout?

Dahlia tubers require warm soil and patience to sprout. If your tuber hasn’t sprouted within 4–6 weeks of planting, check for signs of rot or dehydration. If an issue arises, please reach out within 48 hours of delivery so we can assist.

What if my tuber arrives damaged?

We do our best to ensure quality, but if your tuber arrives damaged or unsproutable, please email us within 48 hours of delivery with clear photos so we can review and resolve the issue. Since tubers are perishable, we cannot honor refund or replacement requests beyond this timeframe.

Do you accept returns or offer refunds?
